I.E.E.E @ M.A.C.E

I.E.E.E Student Chapter started off at M.A.C.E in 1989 and we had an active unit in the start. The initial momentum was lost with time and the activities once came to a standstill. Our students had to associate with I.E.E.E Student Chapters of other institutions. Work has already started to reinstall the lost glory of I.E.E.E Student Chapter.

With the aim to generate awareness about I.E.E.E, a seminar was conducted at our college on 27th February 2008. Master Kuriakose Rajan from University College of Engineering along with two other delegates gave an insight into I.E.E.E and the benefits of being an I.E.E.E member.

More activities which include workshops, seminars and exhibitions are in store expecting your participation and support.

I.E.E.E and its impact in the world

“Technological Innovation and Excellence for the benefit of Humanity”. This is what I.E.E.E is all about. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers founded in 1963 is a non-profit organization and is the world’s leading professional association for the advancement of technology. This institute brings Scientists, Engineers and all people associated with engineering and technology including students, under the same roof along with the world’s leading companies and institutions so that they can associate with each other and share their goals. Association and Networking helps to share information solve problems, promotion of ideas and solve the problem of duplication of efforts.

I.E.E.E was formed by the merging of American Institute of Electrical Engineers and Institute of Radio Engineers. A.I.E.E was formed in 1984 by the prominent Engineers of America which included Thomas Edison. A.I.E.E focused on light and power and wire communications. By the start of the 20th century Radio communication was becoming prominent and Scientists involved in Wireless communication framed the Institute of Radio Engineers in 1912. Most of the members of I.R.E were also members of A.I.E.E and these two organizations worked independently with very less association. The penetration of Electronics to Electrical Engineering removed the boundaries that separated them. Soon the need for association was felt and a consolidation of A.I.E.E and I.R.E was planned. This plan came in to effect on January 1st 1963 and was named the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Now I.E.E.E is spread over 180 countries with around 370,000 members which include 80,000 students. Though I.E.E.E initially focused only on Electrical and Electronics Engineers, with the advancement of technology, its scope has extended to other areas as well. Now I.E.E.E serves people working in all fields of Engineering and Technology ranging from Mechanical Engineering to Biomedical Engineering.

The institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers have contributed to the modern world in many ways. Its effect can be felt in areas ranging from communication to aerospace. Right from the time of its formation it has worked for the welfare of mankind through technological advancement.
I.E.E.E has always served as a resource of information and through its global reach has helped people around the world share and use information.
Through proper association and collaboration I.E.E.E have brought Scientists and Engineers together which has resulted in fast technological growth and advancement.
I.E.E.E has served as a neutral organization in technological issues and has framed the standards for various technologies. The 802.11 wireless standards is a popular example.
I.E.E.E has helped to create an interest among people for the engineering profession worldwide.
I.E.E.E has recognized scientists and engineers who have shown technical excellence in various fields and have encouraged them.
Through the I.E.E.E code of ethics the institute has set ethical standards which are applicable to all engineers. The I.E.E.E code of ethics sticks to the I.E.E.E mission.

In Kerala ‘The Local Interactive Network of Kerala I.E.E.E Students’ (L.I.N.K), works to integrate and monitor the activities of I.E.E.E student chapters spread across various colleges. L.I.N.K provides support and guidance to the student chapters in Kerala.
